Welcome to the latest Faccts report – Summer 2008:

Normally we report over a 2 month period. In the school summer term our report spans from May to the end of August 2008 (even though we’re not quite there yet ...).

Hope you enjoy reading it as much as we did creating it!

This last period of service has been our busiest, possibly ever. There have been many areas that the Faccts team has been serving in the local Fleet schools.
And expansion of the wider Faccts team.

Junior schools:
Our respective team of weekly volunteers have been doing their usual fantastic work in most of the local Junior schools. They are always well received in all the schools that we are in by the staff and more importantly the young students. The lunch time clubs continue to run each week with dynamic creativity. The results being simply good, positive Christian influence that enhances the lives of all who attend. This is really what Faccts is all about: Simply creating opportunities for individuals to respond to and think about what God means to them and what place He has in society today.

Our annual opportunity to share the Scripture Union course: ‘It’s Your Move’ (IYM) – has also just been completed in each of the Junior schools.  This is simply a course that is used nationwide with over 800 000 year six leavers – delivered to local Junior schools by many Christian charities like Faccts. The bottom line: To help the year six leavers think about and explore the new opportunities that they will face in September when they begin their secondary school career. We distribute over 450 IYM booklets to each year six student in Fleet and Church Crookham, with their names in their own personal booklet. It is always well supported by staff at all the schools and is one of the highlights of our Junior school work as positive results are often seen the same day. We mentioned possible ‘video diary’ in our last report – hopefully by the end of 2008 we may have some great footage for you to enjoy and see exactly what Faccts is up to.

In summary: A BIGTHANK YOU to all the Faccts team members who have faithfully served in our local schools this year. An even BIGGER THANK YOU to the local senior management in all the schools that we frequent, for allowing us to serve, with their staff in their schools.

Secondary schools:
The summer term at Calthorpe Park Secondary (CPS) and Court Moor Secondary (CMS) has been action packed. There has been opportunity for so much involvement. As follows:

CalthorpePark:
In the month of May we provided the year 11’s with a few good start to their GCSE’s with a light breakfast of fruit, doughnuts, fruit juice, tea & coffee. It was a trial run but the free breakfast hopefully helped to ease some of the pain of these BIG exams ...?!  Our usual weekly ‘180’ extended schools activity afternoon’s have gone well over the summer term. Hosted by Mr Starring and co-lead by Mischa we have had a good term, run every Thursday after school: Ultimate Frisbee, treats and good chat! Our staff coffee mornings continue to run like clock-work and are MUCH appreciated by the CPS staff on Mondays. In partnership with Church on the Heath we have also started a monthly prayer breakfast for Christian staff at CPS and anyone else interested, which has gone well. We conclude the term with helping to cook the massive BBQ held at the end of the term for the CPS charity awareness day and then more help in assisting Pete Turner (site manager at CPS) in cooking some good food for the staff BBQ on breakup day. Many more opportunities are on the horizon for the new academic year which I will mention towards the end of this report.

Court Moor Secondary:
We have done all sorts of things at CMS in the summer of 08. In the middle of May CMS paid for Mischa to attend and complete a weekend of mountain bike training. The weekend went well and Mischa and Mr. Manzoukis (CMS teacher) completed their Mountain Bike Instructor Grade 1. Throughout the term we coached softball on Tuesdays after school for year 8’s which was well attended. The opportunity to deliver many assemblies to years: 7 – 9 were also completed  throughout the summer term with great feedback and positive response from staff and students. The after school club ‘180’ has also been running weekly for the entire term and like CPS, been going well. The month of June was the ‘Residential’ month. Mischa served with the CMS staff at Calshot with 100 plus year 9’s for an entire week. A fantastic experience and very well run and co-ordinated by Ms. Salmon (PE Dept) at CMS. Later in the month Mischa served with the CPS team at the ‘world famous’ Tile Barn year 8 annual camping trip in the New Forest. This is where the mountain bike training came in handy as Mischa lead many groups of young students at Tile Barn.  Again, an absolute pleasure to serve with the CPS team and compliments to Ms. Dearling and Mr. Moore for co-ordinating and managing such a brilliantly organised trip. A few day trips towards the end of term were also a privilege to attend by being an extra staff member. As always the behaviour of the students was great! And this goes for the residential’s too – it has even been said that ‘Tile Barn’ 08 has been the best trip since as long as anyone can remember. Great to have been a part of that. The CMS Friday coffee mornings have continued to flourish – energising many weary teachers! Our service at CMS concluded with a round of RE lessons with some of the year seven’s and were well received. As with CPS, many more opportunities are on the horizon for the new academic year which again, I will mention towards the end of this report.

In conclusion: A very BIG THANKYOU to the senior management, particularly Beverly Stephens and Cathy Anwar and their staff for having us in their great schools. It’s a privilege to serve with you.

In closing:
We are very pleased to introduce Clare Shepherd our newest part-time Faccts schools worker. Clare is a MUCH NEEDED extra pair of hands for Mischa particularly at the Secondary schools and will hopefully be with us long-term.
THANK YOU TO ALL OUR FAITHFUL PARTNERS for all your prayers and pounds. We could not do any of this without you!!  And THANK YOU to God for guiding us every step of the way.
