Fleet and Crookham Welcome to the latest Faccts-Cast: Winter 2009
The following report runs from the start of September to the end of December 2009.
Compiled by Mischa Constant and Sharon Gardner.
September 2009
Junior schools
Events: None to mention.
Student Relational Development: Our usual weekly Christian lunchtime clubs ran at All Saints, Heatherside and Velmead. The Church on the Heath has also begun a new club at Elvetham Primary School. These weekly clubs continue to see growth in numbers and more importantly relationship with students and staff.
Secondary schools:
Events: Our weekly coffee mornings continue to run at both secondary schools.
Student Relational Development: With our Bulembu trip now well on the way we launched the final process of ‘selection’ of potential students for the trip in 2010. This was done at Court Moor. Starting in late September with a series of very early mornings - to test genuine commitment to the project! This has been well attended and we estimate that we will be taking our full quota of 25 students in 2010.
Various assemblies at Court Moor as well as engagement with the Farnborough 6th form Christian Union. Finally, our youth club: 180 continues to go well at Calthorpe, as well as our Year 7 & 8 weekly youth club. We have begun our new youth-club initiative at Court Moor.
Other: Mischa begins his second year with the CYM university degree after passing his first year well. Ongoing weekly work on various youth projects with Hampshire Youth Services (HYS) continues to develop the wider youth practice of Faccts. Churches Together had an evening dedicated to the work of Faccts, held and St. Philip & St. James. Our Directors meeting ended the month with a useful evaluation of our work. Finally, on a very positive note: Sharon Gardner is now ‘officially’ on-team as our new part-time schools worker.
October 2009
Junior schools:
Events: None to mention.
Student Relational Development: Our usual weekly Christian lunchtime clubs ran at All Saints, Heatherside, Velmead and Elvetham Junior Schools.
Secondary schools:
Events: Our weekly coffee mornings continue to run at both secondary schools. Our Bulembu selection mornings continue to run well and finish before half term with final decisions made on the ’team’ coming the first week back to school.
Student Relational Development: All our usual youth clubs are running well and are considered as quality extended schools activities at the schools. We also delivered a few assemblies at Court Moor which have been received well.
Other: Mischa has continued to work with HYS on a weekly basis which is proving to be invaluable in our development in youth practice as a schools work trust. HYS manager June Bing continues to work with Mischa to plan and co-ordinate the Africa trip that we plan to run with 25 Court Moor Year 10 students in the summer of 2010.
November 2009
Junior schools
Events: Whole-School assembly delivered at All Saints that went well, despite many of the school staff being off-work due to illness.
Student Relational Development: Our usual weekly clubs continue to run well this month. Thank you to our fantastic wider Faccts team who serve so faithfully every week!
Secondary schools:
Events: The eve of the Town-wide Faccts/NVISION youth event was upon us with most of the month of November putting the ‘finishing touches’ to the overall organisation and co-ordination of the event. In many ways the event was a success and another great example of volunteers from local churches serving the community together. For those that did come to the event, both young and old, the general feeling was a very positive and optimistic one! If you are interested, for a full evaluative report on the specific outcomes of the event please contact Faccts.
Student Relational Development: Our usual weekly youth clubs continue to run well this month with some great conversations on ‘life, the universe and everything!’ The final Bulembu students have been selected as well as the staff coming from Court Moor and HYS. We also delivered many assemblies at Court Moor this month. The youth event also provided opportunity for informal relational building with many local young people.
Other: Various local youth worker meetings took place, which continue to help greatly to bring the wider ‘team’ together. Mischa was invited to speak at St. Johns Hartley Witney men’s breakfast. This event went well, by His Grace and the food and conversations were fantastic!
December 2009
Junior schools
Events: Our annual Christmas Presentation was delivered to the following schools: Velmead, Heatherside, All Saints and Elvetham Heath Junior Schools. They were held at Fleet Methodist church and Church on the Heath. Once again, the great team of volunteers from these two churches delivered a top-quality presentation of the Christmas story to both young and old! What a privilege! For Elvetham Heath it was the first time.
Student Relational Development: Sharon delivered a set of successful RE lessons at Velmead and has been asked to deliver another set over the Easter period in 2010. Our usual weekly clubs continue to run well this month. The termly Faccts thank-you lunch took place at the Prince of Wales pub in Fleet. Thank you to our fantastic wider Faccts team who serve so faithfully every week and a very Merry Christmas to you all!
Secondary schools:
Events: The parent/student evening for the Bulembu trip was delivered by Faccts and HYS. This was well received and has put a whole new and exciting dimension into the trip with many ideas for further fundraising coming from parents and students. Our first ‘Bulembu’ fundraiser was held at the Camberley Mall. Mischa and most of the Bulembu students, along with HYS team and Court Moor staff, sang and busked a good two hours of carols. This was a great event, one of many that will bring the team more effectively together. Our weekly coffee mornings continue to run fantastically at both secondary schools.
Student Relational Development: Our usual weekly youth clubs ran well this month with some great conversations on the Christmas story. Sharon and Matt Luscombe delivered a set of successful lessons relating to the Christmas story at Calthorpe at their inter-house day.
Other: Mischa’s first term of his second year at CYM has been a success, despite study levels increasing and being of the more advanced level. The ‘Faccts–Year’ begins bright and early in 2010 starting on January 4th.
Thank you to all our faithful volunteers, directors, prayer partners and generally the wider team. May you have a blessed Christmas and a New Year full of adventure!
